Abstract

The paper focuses on the opportunities and limitations of existing feminist foreign policies (FFP) on migration strategies. Interestingly, the immigration issues have not been elaborated within the feminist strategies and none of the countries who adopted FFP made clear references to migration. In theory, a feminist foreign policy approach to migration centers on addressing migration issues through a gender-sensitive and intersectional lens. The strategy recognizes that migration is deeply intertwined with gender dynamics, and it seeks to promote policies and actions that consider the specific experiences and needs of diverse migrant populations, particularly women and other marginalized groups. However, some argue that the limitation of the policy is avoiding addressing the security and social threats of the migration process, especially from patriarchal societies where they can endanger local women’s rights, freedom, and safety. The paper questions whether it is possible to implement FFP with more targeted and precise immigration reforms while challenging patriarchal structures and norms that contribute to gender-based inequalities in migration. This approach not only considers the needs of women migrants but also strives to transform migration policies and practices to be more inclusive, just, and responsive to gender and intersectional concerns.
