Abstract

This theme asks the authors to discuss gendered aspects of various forms of "newness" in party politics. Karen Beckwith takes forward the theorisation of newness, a prominent concept in FI studies of political institutions, to examine the intersection of new institutions and new actors in advanced democracies in the context of major constitutional, electoral and party system changes. Newness is also explored in terms of new types of parties and the way in which they are gendered. Petra Ahrens discusses green parties and Kimberly Cowell-Meyers provides an overview of the history and key features women's parties.
