Abstract

The chapter comparatively examines citizenship regimes and the problem of statelessness worldwide out of an intersectional perspective including legal provisions as well as political practices. (1) Ways of citizenship acquisition and naturalization are analysed regarding discrimination against women and minorities, considering (2) causes and consequences of citizenship regimes on statelessness. After delivering a short overview of different national citizenship regulations in their intersectional effects, the chapter pays specific attention to Palestinians as a concrete example regarding questions of statelessness, splits between legal citizenship and national identity, and acts of (non)citizenship.
