Abstract

Thousands of Nigerian migrants have returned to Nigeria over the past eight years through different means including voluntary humanitarian return, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, forced return and deportation. In partnership with diverse stakeholders, the Nigerian government developed the National Migration Policy (NMP) and the Standard Operating Procedures on Return, Readmission and Reintegration (RRR) to ensure that relevant policies are in place when return migrants arrive in the country. However, the experiences of return migrants differ based on a myriad of reasons including gender, vulnerability, type of support received and even type of return. To better understand their reintegration experiences, this presentation will discuss data from interviews conducted with return migrants, their family members, and return migrant victims of human trafficking after their return to Nigeria.
