Abstract

This research delves into a comprehensive analysis of the influential efforts exerted by diverse organizations aiming to impact and inform through meetings with members of the European Commission and parliamentarians. Focused on the European Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act, the study employs an independent network analysis methodology for both parliamentarians and commissioners, providing nuanced insights into the individuals and entities most actively engaged with the legislation. The methodology involves a meticulous examination of meetings, allowing the identification of parliamentarians and commissioners who have prominently addressed the intricate facets of the European AI Act. By isolating these key figures, the study aims to elucidate the central players contributing to the development and discourse surrounding this pivotal legislation. Furthermore, the research employs network statistics to conduct a nuanced analysis of influence, gauging the relative importance of various actors within the context of the European AI Act. This multifaceted approach seeks to unravel the complex web of interactions among commissioners, parliamentarians, and interest groups, shedding light on the dynamics shaping the legislative landscape. The findings highlight the pivotal role played by certain parliamentarians and commissioners who have consistently engaged with the European AI Act. Through the network analysis, the research identifies the nodes that serve as crucial points of influence, thereby offering a clearer understanding of the legislative process. This not only enriches academic discourse but also has practical implications for policymakers and stakeholders involved in shaping AI-related policies.
