The differences between the consolidated European democracies and the political systems of Central and Eastern Europe on the level of party systems are still wide. The party competition in CEE is more open than in the Western European systems, party systems are more fragile and structured, profile of the parties is less crystallized. How strong is the impact of EU accession on political parties and party system in new-member states? Is EU promoter of democracy or trouble for new-born democracies? The aim of paper is to analyze the interactions between the dynamics of democratisation and Europeanization in the process of consolidation party systems in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in Poland.
