Our newly elected Executive Committee members announced

We are pleased to announce that six candidates have been duly elected to the ECPR Executive Committee to serve the term 1 May 2024 – 30 April 2030.

The election was to fill six seats on the twelve-member Executive Committee. All vacancies were caused by the following members having served their full statutory term of office: Giliberto Capano, David Farrell, Hana Kubátová, Petra Meier, Sabine Saurugger, and Thomas Saalfeld.

Following the ECPR’s electoral rules, the election took place over three successive stages: nomination, endorsement and voting; and was presided over by Senior Returning Officer, Thomas Poguntke, University of Düsseldorf.

As set out in the Gender Equality Plan, and in line with the mission of our Working Group on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, this election was designed to create greater gender parity on the Committee. To do so, two concurrent elections were run – one for women candidates and one for men.

The Executive Committee have taken the opportunity to fill the additional vacancy on the Board by co-opting Jean-Michel Eymeri-Douzans of Sciences Po Toulouse, who had the next highest number of votes after the three elected male candidates.

Electoral Process

A call for nominations was issued in October 2023 and Official Representatives from ECPR Full Member institutions were able to endorse and then vote for candidates via the ECPR website between 4 December 2023 and 23 February 2024.

Upon the conclusion of the nomination period, seven candidacies were received in the female election and seven in the male. One nomination was received from a candidate from a non-ECPR member institution and was withdrawn before the endorsement phase.

Out of the eleven candidates who received sufficient endorsements to go through to final voting, one withdrew from the election after the endorsement stage.
