Kris Deschouwer elected Chair-Designate of the Executive Committee

At its meeting during the General Conference at the University of Oslo, the ECPR’s Executive Committee elected Professor Kris Deschouwer (Vrije Universiteit Brussels) Chair-Designate to replace Rudy Andeweg when he completes his term of office at the end of April next year.

The ECPR Constitution requires that the EC elects from the ongoing cohort of members a Chair-Designate at least one month before the three-yearly EC elections open. The election process will begin in October, with the new EC taking office officially on 1 May 2018. Kris Deschouwer’s appointment as Chair of the Executive Committee will be confirmed as the first item of business of the new EC.

Of his appointment, Kris said

‘Chairing the ECPR is a great privilege for me. The organisation is almost fifty years old, but I find it in an excellent shape. Filling the shoes of my predecessors will not be easy, but I will  try as hard as I can. Having received so much from the ECPR, it is for me now payback time.’

Elections for six new members of the EC will open on Sunday 15 October – all individuals from Full-Member universities are encouraged to nominate themselves. Full details will be announced in due course.
