About

I am an intersectional feminist sociologist interested in gender, identities, narratives and violence. My PhD (2020) explored narratives of violence in the lives of African women living in Ireland; since then I have carried out research in refugee studies and sexualities. I employ creative, participatory and narrative methods in my research work, with a view to challenging dominant narratives and unsettling binary ways of thinking. I have a professional background in the international development sector, and I have worked for NGOs and UN agencies, as an advisor on gender and refugee issues. Currently, I work as a postdoctoral researcher on Beyond Opposition in the UCD school of geography. Beyond Opposition is a 5 year, 3 country ERC-funded research project exploring ways of moving beyond social polarisation related to gender, sexuality and abortion in Ireland, Great Britain and Canada. My personal essays and criticism dealing with issues of identity in modern Ireland have been published in literary journals and news publications. I am working on a collection of essays about gender and parenthood.
