The Academic Programme will be organised in the format of Sections and Panels, with each Section containing a variety of Panels in a given field. There will also be an Open Section, consisting of stand-alone Panels and Papers which do not necessarily fit within any of the accepted Sections. The programme will be very broad, with Sections covering all the main areas of political science, including Comparative Politics, Public Policy and Public Administration, Political Theory, International Relations and European Studies.
There is a two-stage selection process for submitting proposals to the Academic Programme:
Call for Sections: 15 September – 16 November 2016 (midnight GMT)
Call for full Panels and individual Papers: 2 December 2016 – 15 February 2017 (midnight GMT)
There will not be a separate call for Papers. All Panel proposals must include 4-5 Papers. (Papers submitted as part of a Panel do not need to be resubmitted individually.) Anyone wishing to propose a Paper individually will need to propose it to a specific Section. If accepted, the Section Chair will then allocate it to an appropriate Panel.
Sections: Anyone from an ECPR member institution may organise a Section. Co‑Chairs may come from Full, Associate or non-member institutions. You can check your institution's membership status here.
All proposals to organise Sections must be in English, and submitted online using the form on the ECPR website.

All proposals to organise Sections must be submitted online via MyECPR by 16 November 2016. The Academic Convenors will accept or decline proposed Sections by 1 December 2016. The preliminary allocation of Panels in each Section is determined by the Academic Convenors. This allocation is subject to confirmation or change in light of the number of Panel/Paper proposals received before the final review in March 2017.
Proposers will be notified by ECPR of the outcome of their Section submission in early December 2016. If notification has not been received by the end of December 2016, proposers should contact the Events Team as soon as possible. Any queries regarding the academic content of the proposed Section should be addressed to the Academic Convenors via generalconference@ecpr.eu before the 16 November 2016 deadline.
The second stage of the process is open to anyone wishing to propose a complete Panel with Papers, and those wanting to propose individual Papers to a particular Section. Panels that have been provisionally proposed as part of accepted Sections must also be submitted through this procedure. Panels should include 4-5 Papers. There are no rules requiring proposers of Panels to belong to an ECPR member institution, but they must hold a MyECPR account.
Panel and Paper proposers should complete the proposal process through the MyECPR area of the ECPR website. Once logged in, proposers should select which Section their Panel or Paper should be considered for (and, in the case of topics that cross more than one theme, the name of the alternative Section should be included within their abstract). Panel proposers are required to select up to eight keywords. There is also an Open Section welcoming full Panel and individual Paper proposals that do not fit into any of the listed Sections.
When completing their application, Panel proposers must include details of the Panel abstract, Chair, Discussant, Papers and Paper Presenters and Co-authors.

The deadline to submit complete Panels (with Papers) and individual Paper proposals is 15 February 2017 (midnight GMT).
From 2 December 2016, Section Chairs can view Panels and Papers being proposed to their Section via MyECPR. From 16 February 2017 the Academic Convenors will review the number of Panels/Papers received and will determine the number of Panels per Section. Please note that some Sections may be requested to reduce the number of Panels or accept additional Panels by the Academic Convenors.
From 20 February 2017, Section Chairs may accept and decline Panel and Paper proposals in their Section. Section Chairs have until 10 March 2017 to finalise their Sections via MyECPR.
NB: Section Chairs are expected to evaluate both Panel proposals and individual Paper proposals and allocate individual Paper proposals to Panels and, where appropriate, form Panels out of individual Paper proposals.
It is the Section Chair's responsibility to allocate Chairs and Discussants for Panels in the Section.
When evaluating Panels and Papers for acceptance, Section Chairs should use the following criteria:
From 11 March 2017 the Academic Convenors will review the accepted Panels and Papers in order to finalise the Academic Programme. The deadline for Academic Convenors to complete their review is 30 March 2017.
The Academic Convenors may use their discretion to reallocate Panels and Papers to Sections and Panels where this is required. Section Chairs may, therefore, be asked to accommodate new Panels in their Sections, and Panel Chairs may be asked to accommodate extra Papers within their Panels. Similarly, Section Chairs may also be asked to reduce the number of their Panels and rearrange their Papers accordingly.
Section Chairs, Panel Chairs, and Paper presenters will be contacted with the Academic Convenors' decision in early April 2017.
The Academic Programme will be available on the ECPR website by 3 April 2017 and participants will be notified of the outcome of their proposal by this date. A full timetable will be published by 5 June 2017.
Amendments to Section/Panel/Paper information must be sent to the Events Team by 3 July 2017 in order to be included in the printed programme.
Once the timetable has been completed, Official Representatives or their alternates should check the timetable for any clashes with the Council Meeting and contact the Events Team as soon as possible to see if the Panel can be rescheduled at a more appropriate time.
Online registration opens on 3 April 2017. Further details, including registration fees, will be on the ECPR website in due course; please check the cancellation policy. Participants attending and appearing in any capacity in the Academic Programme must register and pay before midnight GMT on 17 May 2017. Registration and payment takes place through MyECPR. Anyone who has not registered and paid by this date will not be included in the conference and automatically withdrawn from the conference and replaced.
Co-Authors who do not intend to register and attend the conference should email the Events Team by midnight GMT on 17 May 2017 to ensure their names appear in the conference programme.
For the Oslo Conference, if you do not wish to receive a printed copy of the programme, please indicate this by ticking the box in the online registration form.
Even if you decide not to travel to an ECPR event at the very last minute, it’s very important to tell us you can’t attend, because Panels can collapse without sufficient Papers to create a meaningful discussion, or a Chair/Discussant to lead it. Despite cancellation at short notice, Panel or Section Chairs can sometimes rearrange schedules to avoid disappointment. In the lead-up to and during the General Conference, we maintain a constantly updated web page to keep all participants aware of changes to the Academic Programme after the date on which the print brochure went to Press. If you have an update, please email us as soon as possible.
Accepted Papers may be uploaded to the ECPR website via the Presenter's MyECPR account from 1 May 2017. Please note only the person listed as Presenter can upload the Paper. Papers should be uploaded in PDF format, in English. There are no specific requirements other than these. For specific preferences and presentation times, please contact your Panel Chair directly. Please upload or circulate your Paper to your Panellist by 31 August 2017 to enable participants time to read your Paper and prepare suitable comments and questions.
Please be aware that the uploading of a Paper via a MyECPR account constitutes agreement for the ECPR to publish the Paper on the website and mobile App.
Panels are scheduled in eleven time slots commencing 09:00 on Thursday 7 September and concluding at 17:40 on Saturday 9 September 2017. All participants should ensure their availability for ALL eleven time slots.
