This panel discusses the dynamics of feminist movements within the sociopolitical contexts of Italy, Slovenia, Turkey, and Poland, all of which have been significantly impacted by the rise of anti-feminist and anti-gender mobilizations in the last fifteen years. It is based on preliminary findings from the EU Horizon project FIERCE (Feminist movements revitalizing democracy in Europe). The papers center on developing counter-strategies by feminists against neoconservative forces, forming alliances and intersectional solidarity to advance gender policies in the face of fractured feminist-institutional relationships, and the transformative tactics employed by feminist networks to navigate an authoritarian political environments. In the context of European gender politics, the panel seeks to advance the conversation on how intersectional strategies and coalition building can enable feminist movements to implement comprehensive reforms and how these movements’ resilience can contribute to strengthening democracy in the context of European gender politics.
