As climate change accelerates, societies face increasing risks from extreme weather events, environmental degradation, and forced migration. The ability of governments and institutions to respond to these risks through disaster management, social protection policies, and adaptive governance has significant implications for resilience and justice. Climate-related disasters not only pose humanitarian and economic challenges but also raise pressing questions about equity, security, and political responsibility. Furthermore, the intersection of climate risks with migration and post-conflict reconstruction policies highlights the need for a holistic approach to resilience-building. This panel examines the governance and policy responses to climate risks and disasters. Papers in this session analyse how governments respond to climate disasters in the aftermath of extreme weather events, the role of social protection systems in addressing environmental risks, and the framing of 'climate mobilities' in European policy debates on migration. Additionally, environmental justice principles'integrationm and the securitisation of climate change adaptation strategies are discussed. The panel brings together diverse case studies and theoretical perspectives, thereby aiming to contribute to the understanding of how societies can enhance resilience to climate risks while ensuring that adaptation policies remain equitable, effective, and forward-looking.
