Abstract

How does political polarization take hold, and what fuels incivility in divided societies? This panel examines the psychological and structural factors behind affective polarization, partisan identity formation, and the impact of exogenous shocks. Through experiments, survey data, and case studies, we explore how conversations, national pride, and external crises shape political divisions.
