The institutionalisation of European spaces does not stop at the frontiers of Europe. In many fields, international organizations must interact with EU rules, norms and actors. Considered as resources or models, as well as constraints and opponents, international organizations are able to orient and influence the institutionalization of European spaces. The papers in this panel will examine the interactions of those actors who represent the ‘EU’ - and hence ‘Europe’ - with other actors within global organizations, such as the UN, UNESCO, WTO, FAO. Papers are also welcome which analyse the influence of actors who represent international organizations during the re-institutionalization of European spaces, including the effects which the outcomes of global negotiations within these organisations have on the re-construction of European norms and rules. Based on empirical work, the papers will systematically examine EU/European interactions with the international scene and the mechanisms and processes through which these interactions bring Europe into reality.
