Abstract

In the last years, due to the refugee crisis, the EU migration and asylum policy has been analysed by many scholars from different theoretical perspectives. In this context, the EU has sought to move towards a more integration process in this policy area provoking the opposition of many Member States. On the one hand, EU asylum and migration policy area has not been developed, and instead, it is rather far away from a fully developed integrative policy at EU level. On the other hand, the EU's environmental policy area is a clear example of integration development in recent years. Recent public goods and collective action literature has shed light on the "problématique" of refugee protection cooperation in the EU. Within the framework of this criteria, this paper tries to explain to what extent EU migration and asylum area integration process may be linked with the perception of refugee protection as a global public good. Accordingly, the research framework is based on a comparative analysis of two of the main EU measures in migration, asylum and evironment areas in recent years; the 2015 refugee relocation system and the 2030 Framework for Climate and Energy. By doing so, this research provides insights on the dynamics within the integration process of the EU asylum and migration area, specially in terms of cooperation.
