Abstract

Gender and politics scholarship has broadened in scope, both conceptually and in terms of its focus: the impact of intersectionality and queer studies, the focus on migration and neocolonialism and the contribution of feminist political economy (to name but a few areas) have ensured that the field, and its intended audience, has continued to develop. This means that gendered analysis remains relevant to contemporary politics in all its forms. This Section will bring together scholars working from right across the gender and politics field in order to create analytic synergies that address the challenges facing those who seek a more gender equal world. Themes to be explored include, but are not limited to, the following areas: the role of privilege in gender politics; the effects and affects of identification, mis-identification and dis-identification in LGBTQI politics; the role of violence in analyses of gender and politics; the implications for policy makers and activists in the shifting conceptual analysis of gendered norms and cultures; the impact of neoliberalism and exploitation in our understanding of gendered epistemologies and knowledge production; and the means by which traditional understandings of politics can yet be further destabilized by gender and politics research. We propose four Panels, each including a Chair and Discussant. The selection of Panel conveners, Chairs and Discussants will present a geographically balanced representation of scholars from across the world and at different career stages
