Membership

The European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) is a membership association for scholarly institutions, their staff and students, engaged in teaching and research of political science and its related disciplines worldwide.

The core purpose of the ECPR is to advance the field of political science, by bringing academics together from across the world to share ideas, publish research and grow networks.

An institutional association, the ECPR’s membership is comprised of over 350 of the world’s leading academic institutions concerned with teaching and researching political and social science. From this membership stems a network of over 18,000 individuals from these institutions; all of whom benefit from ECPR membership; from Master’s level student to Emeritus Professor.

For the institutions that join, ECPR membership provides vital professional support for their staff and students, helping them progress through the profession and become leaders in their field.

This is done in a number of ways:

State of the art training

The renowned ECPR Methods School (Winter- and Summer Schools) provides high quality training in cutting edge research methods; critical to creating the solid foundations necessary for producing sound research.

High profile events

From the ECPR’s Graduate Student Conference that provides an all-important first experience of presenting a Paper at a high profile international event, to the unique format of the Joint Sessions of Workshops and the premier annual political science event in Europe – the General Conference…, attending an ECPR event provides a platform to share research and ideas and progress careers.

Cutting edge publishing

Highly cited journals and trailblazing books are a high profile and tangible output from the ECPR’s networks and events. The ECPR has three leading journals, including one dedicated to the profession, two book series and its own publishing imprint, the ECPR Press.

International networks

Over 18,000 individuals from more than 350 institutions in some 50 countries worldwide – ECPR has the largest network of political scientists in the world. Members can access these networks through events and publications but more formally also through joining (or convening) a Standing Group or Research Network – formalised research networks that cover the full spectrum of sub-fields.

The ECPR operates two membership types: Full Member and Associate Member. Full Membership is open to those institutions based in the UK and Europe; Associate Membership is open to those outside of these regions. Please see the Constitution and current Membership Fees for more information.

How to join

ECPR membership is institutional (department, institute, college, university), and its benefits are enjoyed by individuals affiliated with that institution. Membership subscription rates for 2018/19 can be found here. To join the ECPR and become a part of a wider political science network, contact the membership department (membership@ecpr.eu) for further details.

Each member institution must nominate an Official Representative (OR) who will be the key contact person for the ECPR and for individuals affiliated to the institution. The OR’s role is to disseminate information to individuals about ECPR activities and be responsible for ECPR membership. ORs from Full member institutions will become part of the ECPR Council.
