Update on the 2022 General Conference

Adapting to the ‘new normal’ as we emerge from the pandemic was never going to be an easy undertaking, and this has come into sharp relief as we finalise our preparations for this year’s General Conference.

We’ve listened to and discussed in great length the feedback from across our membership, especially from Standing Group and Research Network Steering Committee Members. This has further highlighted how imperative it is for our community to be able to meet and present face to face in Innsbruck.

It is with this in mind that we revisited and adjusted our arrangements for the Panels at the General Conference, with help of our local hosts at the University of Innsbruck.

What this means

Today, we are taking the following steps.

First, we have been able to secure additional in-person Panel slots in Innsbruck by extending the conference programme until the late afternoon of Friday 26 August, which was initially scheduled to adjourn in the early afternoon. We hope that this should meet most of the demands of our Standing Groups and Research Networks: further information on this has been circulated to them directly.

Second, we have taken the decision to reduce the fee for virtual participation – offering a 50% discount on the registration fee. Those participants who have already registered for virtual attendance will be refunded the difference. Please get in touch with our Finance Team about the refund.

What happens next

Participants whose Panels were initially scheduled to take place virtually should expect to hear from their Section/Panel Chairs in the coming days with an update on their Panel format.

We have also put together this page to help address some of the most common queries.

A word of thanks

We are grateful to all those colleagues who brought these matters to our attention. We may not have got things quite right on this occasion, but we have listened and have done our utmost to adapt and accommodate.

We hope that these late changes will help resolve the concerns raised and we will certainly reflect on this as we prepare for our events next year.

Finally, we would like to thank our fantastic hosts at the University of Innsbruck for their flexibility and support in helping us modify the arrangements.
