Abstract

The financial crisis, the rise of religious contestation and the extension of far right ideology are coinciding to trigger resistance and opposition to the promotion of gender equality across Europe. This conjunction of factors has created new challenges for women movements to secure political gains as well as new opportunities for transnational collaborations. The “Gender in Times of Crisis” section aims to assess current challenges and resistance to the promotion of gender equality. The section welcomes panel proposals on topics related to the broad section perspective on Gender in Times of Crisis and could include: the impact of the economic crisis; growing resistance to LGBT rights and gender equality; new challenges posed is some policy domains, countries or regions; and political strategies adopted to tackle these new challenges at the individual, party or social movement level.
