About

The ECPR Standing Group on International Relations (SGIR) seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas, experience and findings in the field of international relations, to strengthen the discipline of International Relations within European academic institutions and to improve research and teaching in international relations.

The SGIR aims to raise academic and public interest in International Relations (IR).
Membership in the SG is open to everyone interested in academic IR research, broadly conceived. The SGIR serves as a forum for IR researchers from all over Europe and beyond. Key activities include the European International Relations Summer School, assisting in the management of the European Journal of International Relations (EJIR), participation in European and global IR conferences, and co-funding events benefitting the internationalization of IR scholarship.

Key activities of the SGIR are:

  1. Encouragement and endorsement of IR panels and/or sections at the ECPR General Conference, the ECPR Joint Sessions of Workshops, the EISA Pan-European International Relations Conference, and the Annual Convention of the International Studies Association (ISA).
  2. Support for events organized by SGIR members by making available co-funding open to all SGIR members (for details, please see here).
  3. Organization of events benefitting particularly Early Career Researchers, such as the European International Relations Summer School.
  4. Participation in the jury of the ECPR Hedley Bull Prize in International Relations.
  5. Joint management of the European Journal of International Relations, the flagship journal of the ECPR, together with colleagues from the European International Studies Association (EISA).
