Thomas Mustillo joins PDY

ECPR is delighted to announce that Thomas Mustillo, Purdue College of Liberal Arts, has been appointed as co-editor of the Political Data Yearbook

Published in association with ECPR’s flagship journal, the European Journal of Political Research (EJPR), PDY contains comprehensive, authoritative data and analysis of electoral results, national referenda, changes in government, and institutional reforms for a range of countries, within and beyond the EU.

The online PDY:Interactive (PDYi) is a unique, freely available data source which builds on PDY content. It provides data in a fully searchable and downloadable format, making it an invaluable tool for those working in this area of the profession.

Tom replaces Kevin Deegan-Krause, whose editorial term has come to an end, and joins current co-editors Andreas Bågenholm, University of Gothenburg, and Liam Weeks, University College Cork. Tom will have particular responsibility for the PDYi and its continuing development.

About Tom

Tom Mustillo's research deals with democratic representation, party politics, democracy and governance, and social policy. He is especially interested in understanding the most turbulent of party systems.

Tom is currently working on a book manuscript that treats the multiple dimensions of party and party system instability.

Separately, he is also developing agent-based models of party competition that incorporate non-policy modes of mobilisation, such as clientelism and populism.

His research has been published in outlets that include the Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Electoral Studies and Political Analysis. He has also published and otherwise participated in the collective disciplinary efforts to develop research cyber-infrastructure, especially concerning subnational electoral and party data.

In his own words

'I’m delighted to join the editorial team of the Political Data Yearbook.

In the course of conducting my own research over the years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for and commitment to the provision of public-goods resources for the research community and am especially grateful for the opportunity to sustain and enhance the PDYi.

I’ll look for opportunities to expand the user community, expand the spatial and temporal scope of the collection, and to build collaborations with other related data resources that exist around our community.'
