Abstract

This Section discusses different facets, dynamics, and recent patterns of governance of international migration and migrants’ inclusion. We seek panels and papers for this Section which provide a comparative overview of migration policies, politics and outcomes, by focusing on (a) institutional responses to migration from a multi-level and transnational perspective; (b) the complex network of social and political actors influencing migration management; and (c) the effects of policies on migrants’ lives and interactions. We also seek panels and papers following diverse methodological approaches, single case studies as well as comparative work, and a broad territorial perspective, including also contributions on and from the Global South. Panel and Papers proposals can focus on a variant set of topics associated with migration and ethnicity. This could include (without being restricted to) themes like the following: ▪️ The evolution of diaspora policies and practices from case-study and cross-national comparisons; ▪️ Global or regional trends and patterns of adoption and/or implementation of policies and regulations related to international migration, refugees, and asylum seekers; ▪️ The recent transformations of policies aiming to regulate immigration and immigrants’ inclusion in residence countries at multi-level political settings; ▪️ The role of state and non-state actors in shaping agenda-setting on migration and/or ethnicity; ▪️ Innovative approaches and empirical perspectives on migrants’ incorporation into the labor market; ▪️ Policies and practices comprising migrants’ access to basic services in areas such as education, healthcare or housing; ▪️ The nexus between policymaking related to migration and welfare systems/regimes in either the origin country, the society of residence, or both; ▪️ Shifting patterns of political participation, representation, and claims-making across borders; ▪️ Dynamics and mechanisms in migrants’ access to citizenship and naturalization; ▪️ Public opinion and the study of party positions toward e/immigration; ▪️ The salience of e/immigration in parliamentary speeches and political campaigns; ▪️ Protection and inclusion of new waves of refugees and asylum seekers; ▪️ Narratives and experiences of belonging and identity in multi-ethnic, demographically heterogenic societies; ▪️ The influence of transnational, international, and supranational individuals and organizations in migration governance.
